Akilah grew up in East New York, Brooklyn. Outside of the classroom she enjoys coaching her Junior Varsity Ravens and iced coffee. Akilah's favorite book is the "Four Agreements" by Miguel Ruiz.

Kimberly Chocolaad

Special Education Department Head/ 7th and 8th Grade/Special Education Humanities Teacher

Kimberly is a native New Yorker, who loves traveling, cooking, mentoring youth, and spending time with family and friends. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University at Buffalo with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and Marketing.  After a successful career in book publishing, she decided to follow her passion and earned a Master’s Degree in Education at St. John’s University. She is the Department Chair for the middle school special education team and is a member of the Restorative Justice Action Team.  She loves teaching Middle School because “there is never a dull moment. It’s such a critical time in the development of students’ lives, and the fact that I have the opportunity to influence them in a positive way means everything to me.”

Tiffany Thompson

Math Department Head/8th Grade Math

Ever since a child, Tiffany dreamed of being a teacher.  She recalls turning her bedroom into a classroom-teaching her stuffed animals.  Tiffany graduated from Spelman College with her Bachelor’s in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics.  She was later accepted into the New York City Teaching Fellows program, earning a Master’s in Mathematics Education (7-12) from the City College of New York.  She also holds a Master’s in Administration and Supervision from Fordham University.  Tiffany considers herself a life-long learner and is on a mission to bridge the Achievement Gap. Outside of the classroom, Tiffany enjoys coaching debate, playing chess, and jumping double-dutch.  She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
